An underrated need for this roster.
There are some positional needs on the New Orleans Saints roster that are much more glaring than others. Still, getting a long-term answer before an issue becomes an issue is a good way to build a roster in the NFL. The Saints did this last year by selecting CB Kool-Aid McKinstry in the second round of the NFL Draft. In 2025, New Orleans can do this again, but with the linebacker group. One of the top 2nd round options is UCLA LB Carson Schwesinger, who at his pro day, met with the Saints privately, per Adam Schefter.

As I mentioned before, the Saints made a smart decision by selecting Kool-Aid in the second-round last draft. Cornerback was arguably the strength of the roster, but since then, Paulson Adebo and Marshon Lattimore went to other teams. If the Saints did not draft Kool-Aid, this position group would have been the worst in the NFL. This could easily happen with the linebacker group in two years. Demario Davis has been the star of this defense since his arrival, and although Pete Werner has been up and down, he is a really solid linebacker. Davis’ age has to be in consideration with this roster building and although the hope is he has a few more seasons in him, expecting that is not the way to go. Werner has not shown that ability to be that Demario Davis replacement when the time comes, so getting in front of that issue and making that investment now would be very smart. In the second round, Carson Schwesinger can be that investment.
