The Cleveland Browns are officially releasing wide receiver Kadarius Toney and now he’s on waivers but it shouldn’t be too long until he finds his next team. According to a report, the Browns are no longer giving Toney another chance following a brutal mistake late in the loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Originally selected in the 2021 NFL Draft, the wideout never saw ample time on the field with the Giants before later finding himself in a trade to the Kansas City Chiefs. Toney may have won two Super Bowls but he didn’t do much to help the Chiefs consider him a long-term solution despite catching a few crucial passes including a pivotal pass from Patrick Mahomes in a win over the Eagles.
The free agent market may no longer look bright for Toney as he continues to show teams he isn’t a reliable playmaker in the league anymore. However, a team could easily sign him to a practice squad to see if he could revitalize his career. Even though he won’t make the starting team, Toney could be a rotational player on the roster that is vital for a passing game. Some say he may never get an NFL opportunity but never say never, Toney wouldn’t come at a high cost so several teams could take a chance on him.
Two-time Super Bowl Champion Wideout Kadarius Toney On Waivers – 4 Next Possible Teams
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs are probably the worst 12-1 team in NFL history after almost losing several winnable games, including against the Carolina Panthers. While Head Coach Andy Reid realizes there’s more work ahead of them, they could bring back some familiarity in their offense. Trading for DeAndre Hopkins hasn’t been doing anything special while Patrick Mahomes is struggling to connect with rookie Xavier Worthy. Toney might not do anything special himself but he might be a solid situational player in the postseason.
Baltimore Ravens
If anyone needs a fourth man since releasing Odell Beckham Jr. this past offseason, it’s the Baltimore Ravens. Diontae Johnson’s arrival to the Ravens has been an unfortunate disappointment so signing Toney could bring some temporary life. Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman are Lamar Jackson’s top targets no matter what, but they need some extra backend insurance policy to relieve the pressure from Isaiah Likely and Mark Andrews to help protect the quarterback. Toney is no superstar but he could make a few catches to move the chains.
New Orleans Saints
The 2024 season for the New Orleans Saints may be over but it shouldn’t stop them from packing up the bags with a positive momentum. Derek Carr may be injured but they need a few healthy scratches to help rookie Spencer Rattler be in an environment where it gives him an actual chance. This could be the perfect opportunity for the Saints to sign Toney since they were able to bring out the best in Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Perhaps, these two teaming up might be the right chemistry for the Saints’ offense as they will possibly continue their building blocks for 2025.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers already have several wide receivers on their roster but only Ladd McConkey and Joshua Palmer have been putting on a strong case. Perhaps, they could sign Toney to see what he could do as it would provide Justin Herbert with a new set of hands. Quentin Johnston has his moments while DJ Chark is quiet so Toney might not be the permanent answer, he could be his playoff self with the Chargers.
