As the New Orleans Saints are entering their offseason, all eyes are on the decision on the next head coach. When that next head coach gets to his office, he’ll have some decisions to make.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox unveiled his free agency big board, and two Saints cracked top-50. Chase Young was ranked as the 47th best free agent, and Paulson Adebo made the list slightly above Young at 43.
Both players present interesting decisions for the next head coach. Adebo is a question mark because of health, and that could work in their favor. Alontae Taylor and Kool-Aid McKinstry didn’t do enough to not consider retaining Adebo.
Adebo’s injury will likely keep his asking price low. Adebo is a good cover corner but has been inconsistent with being too physical. He had more penalties this year than last season in significantly less games.
On the other hand, Adebo also intercepted three passes in just seven games. He can be handsy, but he’s also a playmaker. It should be a low-cost, low-risk move. Adebo would be a good player to keep in the cornerback room.
For Young it’s a financial decision. He didn’t have a lot of sacks, but his pressures were abundant. There will be a team who is attracted by that.
It’s important to remember Young is a former second overall draft pick. When you’re drafted that high you’ll get a lot of chances. Young has shown the potential that could warrant, not only another opportunity but also, a nice paycheck along the way. Are the Saints willing to pay a competitive wage?
