Derek Carr isn’t guaranteed to be the New Orleans Saints starting quarterback in 2025, but if he is, FanDuel believes the Saints will have the second-worst starting quarterback in the NFL.
FanDuel took the liberty of speculating what quarterbacks will change teams in the offseason, so it should be assumed Spencer Rattler wouldn’t beat out Carr in the situation or that Rattler’s ranking would be in the same place.
What’s notable is Carr is behind four quarterbacks who didn’t start last season: Justin Fields, J.J. McCarthy, Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward.
Sanders and Ward may be the NFL draft’s top two quarterbacks this year, but placing them above Carr says more about Carr than it does the incoming quarterbacks. The same goes for McCarthy who suffered a season-ending injury before he could play a game.
McCarthy, Sanders and Ward ranked 24th, 28th and 30th. FanDuel doesn’t think they’ll set the league ablaze. They’ll just be better than Carr.
Carr wasn’t great last year, but saying he’s worse than every starter not named Will Levis feels like a reach. Carr showed the ability to be a part of, but not the driving force of, effective offensive production.
The Saints may move on from Carr, but he should land on his feet if that happens. He’s still a starting quarterback. You just don’t want to rely on him to win you too many games. That will have you in the bottom half of the quarterback rankings, but 31st is too low.
