The New Orleans Saints have seemingly finally landed on a head coach, which will at least give some clarity to what thinks will look like on offense. With that, it is time to start thinking about the players that the team could now be interesting in taking for the 2025 NFL draft.
One such player that has wildly different value from source-to-source is Arizona State Sun Devils running back Cam Skattebo. It seems like he could go anywhere from the second round to Round 5, which really means everything is on the table for him. Pre-draft athletic testing will be big for him in such a loaded draft class.
With new head coach Kellen Moore likely installing a run-first offense next season, the need for a second running back behind Alvin Kamara now only grows. Should the Saints be interested in Skattebo?
Just two years ago, the fan favorite back was logging snaps for the Sacramento State Hornets in the FCS. His career blossomed once he transferred to the Sun Devils, but it really took off this past season.
As a senior, he logged 293 carries for 1,711 yards with an absurd 21 touchdowns. He finished fifth in Heisman voting and likely would have been even more popular had Ashton Jeanty not had one of the best running back seasons of all time.
Skattebo is a 5-foot-11, 216-pound back who would be a power back to pair with Kamara. He is a solid receiver and pass blocker as well, making him a perfect backup. His weaknesses are with his top-end speed and explosiveness, two things that New Orleans really doesn’t need him to do.
If they could snag him on late Day 2 or early in Day 3, it would be a very solid selection. A Round 2 selection seems way too high and a Round 6 pick doesn’t seem very realistic. With the depth in this class, Rounds 3 or 4 may be the best zone to target Skattebo.
