Top NFL free agent running back JK Dobbins is still highlighted as one of the players available on the market. According to reports, Dobbins is a top-10 free agent this offseason, but he could sign soon. The Denver Broncos became the latest team to be a part of those conversations that may pursue him. However, there’s a chance that most free agents won’t sign until after the NFL Draft, and that may include Dobbins, who is surprisingly still on the market despite having a career resurgence with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Originally selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the former Ohio State product began his career with the Baltimore Ravens, hoping to carve out a role as a starter. Dobbins has been dealing with injuries since stepping on the field alongside Gus Edwards, so the Ravens didn’t retain them last offseason. The Chargers gave them a new opportunity, and while Edwards did disappoint, there were excellent strides for Dobbins. The running back had his moments of speed, but it wasn’t enough for the Chargers since he did suffer an MCL sprain in Week 1 against his former team, the Ravens.
Los Angeles already found their new running back in Najee Harris, and there haven’t been reports to indicate the Chargers would bring back Dobbins. With that, teams might not want to take on the chance, but these two rosters could use him in the backfield as a backup.

Backing Up Alvin Kamara
This could be the perfect opportunity for the New Orleans Saints to take advantage of one of the top available running backs left on the market could likely sign soon. The Saints don’t have the financial liberty to sign Dobbins to a high-paid contract, but he doesn’t need that right now. No one is taking Alvin Kamara’s job, but they need a capable backup if they want to see more success out of him for many seasons to come. Despite signing a new deal, the Saints want to ensure Kamara is fresh for a potential postseason run.
Kendre Miller has been a failing experiment coming out of the NFL Draft. They can’t put any stress on him, and he isn’t ready for a backup role just yet as former head coach Dennis Allen said it himself that he’s on thin ice. However, Kellen Moore loves running the ball and he could bring out the best in Dobbins as a 1-2 punch with Kamara as two capable rushers to move the chains.
Baltimore Reunion?
It’s possible the Baltimore Ravens could bring back Dobbins for at least one season. There’s promise in Keaton Mitchell, but they can’t rush him after returning from a brutal season-ending injury last year. He’s been quiet, to no surprise, so while they wait, they could bring a familiar face. Dobbins isn’t taking Derrick Henry‘s job as well, but the chemistry could still be there to rejuvenate this ground game behind Henry.
John Harbaugh did say Henry isn’t the entire offense, so that means they could sign either a free agent running back or draft one this month.
