The New Orleans Saints have no shortage of problems as they head into the 2024 season. Unfortunately, one of the biggest bright spots on their roster seems primed to miss a lot of playing time this year.
On Thursday, the Saints officially placed three-time All-Pro offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk on the reserve/PUP list. By placing him on the list, Ramczyk is set to miss a minimum of four games for the team.
“Players on the Reserve/PUP list must sit out the first four weeks of the regular season. After that, teams have a five-week window in which to allow the player to begin practicing and from the day the player begins practicing, the team would have a 21-day window to decide whether to activate him to the 53-man roster,” the team said in a statement.
“If either of those deadlines pass, the player must remain on the PUP list for the rest of the season.”
But Saints insider Nick Underhill isn’t expecting him to play at all. Taking to X, Underhill said he expects Ramczyk to miss the entire season.
“This likely means Ryan Ramczyk will not play this season,” Underhill posted on X.
Ramczyk has been dealing with some serious knee cartilage issues that have not been healing as quickly as he’s needed. But he’s never missed an entire NFL season before.
At 30 years of age, Ramczyk’s recovery time from future injuries is likely to be shorter, not faster.
We can only wish him the best and hope that these issues don’t force him into an early retirement.
