Davis emphasized that despite the team’s 5-11 record, light will come again.
On Sunday, the New Orleans Saints lost 25-10 to the Las Vegas Raiders. This would be their 11th loss on the season, something that has not occurred since 2005. After the game, Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi took to the podium to speak to the media as did QB Spencer Rattler and LB Demario Davis.
Davis came prepared as he always does but this time, he came with an important message for the media and fans. Since signing with the Saints in 2018, Davis has become an important part of the defense, and the team as whole. A leader on and off the field, he and his family have embraced the community, giving back in more ways than one through Devoted Dreamers, his foundation that was established in 2013. Davis gave back once again on Sunday afternoon, delivering a strong message of faith and hope.
He started his speech by emphasizing that there is a difference in fans and family. One thing that he loves about playing in New Orleans is that the majority of Saints fans are family. He mentioned their loyalty, where fans are with you when a team is hot, but family is with you thorough the good times and bad times.
Davis said, “It is no secret that we are in a dark time right now, when you are in dark time, everyone is looking for the same thing. You are looking for light and looking for direction. What I am hoping to offer the next few minutes in a little light and direction. The bible says that ‘Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.’ What that means is when things aren’t going the way you want them, you cannot panic. You have to know that something greater is going to come. If anyone knows anything about business. you know that the market goes up and down, up and down and those who win in the long haul, are those who don’t panic when things are going down. That is the great thing about this organization and this family is that when things aren’t going the way they we want them, there will be no panic. I trust our organization, because some organizations fall off, they never return. But if you look at the great organizations across any league, give them time. they always rise back to being that contender.
Davis closed out his message with this: “So, a word to the family is… I understand our frustration, that is because we have been contenders. It is not a fault hope; it is not a false expectation. The message is also that we can’t panic, that we can’t worry. We have to stay together, we have stay united and that we have to trust that we will rise from this. We will get back to what we all desire to be. We have the right decision makers to do that. If you just look at the team, we draft well, we do great in free agency and if you look across the game, that is what sustains teams over the long haul. Continuity, drafting well, bringing the right guys in and at the right time, we will rise. Light will come again. So, we won’t panic, we won’t jump ship, we’ll continue to charge, we’ll continue to move straight ahead. Looking to finish the season 1-0 and then we will go from there. That’s my message”
I don’t know what will happen in the near future with the team. It has been almost 20 years since the Saints have been in this situation. But what I do know is that Demario Davis still has faith in them, and he believes that they will rise again. In the 2006 season, many changes were made, and the Saints overcame adversity. Will history repeat itself? Davis believes so and he wants the family to as well.
