The New Orleans Saints have selected Margaux Schmidt from Buchères, France as the Saints’ 2025 International Fan of the Year.
The International Fan of the Year title celebrates extraordinary fans celebrate fans who elevate the game through their love of football across the world.
Saints defensive back J.T. Gray surprised Schmidt with the news that she will represent the Saints at the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay in April.
Schmidt is a huge fan of the NFL, especially the Saints. She started watching the NFL five years ago thanks to her boyfriend who was already a fan and a football player. She immediately gravitated to supporting the Saints after falling in love with the team, watching the atmosphere in the Caesars Superdome during gameday and the ties between New Orleans and France.
In her spare time, Schmidt is a flag football player and helps promote the game especially to women in France. It’s a sport that she practices each week for the last three years, and one she would like to show is a sport available for everyone. She is a fourth-grade teacher and uses her job to share her passion and introduce kids to the NFL during English classes. Her class also learns how to play flag football during their sports periods.
Last year, her students learned about the NFL and ended up commentating the Super Bowl LVIII game in English. She was so proud of their work that she sent it to NFL France, and the NFL and NFL France shared it on their social channels. It was incredible for the students and this year she will work again to educate them further about the NFL in hopes they will love the sport like her and become mini-NFL fans in France.
When learning of the honor, Schmidt said she was “so happy” and “couldn’t imagine this to be real.”
