The New Orleans Saints have a new veteran quarterback on their roster and a name that will likely inspire fear – but only in Saints fans.
According to Saints insider Nick Underhill, the Saints have signed veteran Nathan Peterman to a contract. Per the report, he will compete as a backup behind Derek Carr for the team this coming season.
“Saints signed Nathan Peterman to compete as the backup quarterback, per source,” Underhill wrote.
Peterman is widely seen as one of the worst quarterbacks in NFL history. He’s 1-4 as a starter and is 2-13 in games. He has never thrown for 200 yards and threw for more interceptions in a single game (five) than touchdowns in his entire career (four).
Needless to say, numbers like that don’t inspire the least bit of confidence in Saints fans:
“How tf is this guy even in the NFL much less on my team. Idc if he’s 8th string,” one user replied.
“Scout team defense putting up hall of fame numbers,” another user joked.
“How does this guy keep getting jobs? He’s one of the worst quarterbacks in NFL history…….” a third user wrote.
Last year the Saints had Jameis Winston as their backup. But with Winston off to Cleveland, the Saints need someone to compete with second-year man Jake Haener in case things go off the rails with Carr this season.
That said, Peterman isn’t going to inspire confidence in any Saints fan unless he magically turns into a great quarterback sometime this offseason.
