The New Orleans Saints are preparing for the 2025 NFL Draft and recently brought Will Campbell, one of the top prospects in the class, in for a visit. Following a dominant career at LSU, there are some worries about where Campbell will play at the next level, making him one of the more controversial selections of the top prospects.
Despite dominating as a tackle against collegiate competition, Campbell’s short arms and relatively undersized frame have some believing he’ll end up playing guard at the professional level. Campbell’s arm length is the most concerning, as the consensus is you need 33″ arms to successfully play the position at the NFL level. Campbell’s arm length measured 32 5/8″ at the NFL Combine but jumped to exactly 33″ during his Pro Day.
Regardless of where he plays, Will Campbell should have a long NFL career, but where will he line up if the Saints select him? While some reports indicate the team is looking at a quarterback, they could take Campbell if they can’t a quarterback worth taking with the ninth-overall pick.
REPORT: Saints Host Will Campbell on NFL Draft Visit
If the Saints use a top-10 pick on Will Campbell, it’s probably because they believe he can be a tackle at the NFL level. While New Orleans must improve their offensive line, they already have a good left tackle in 2024 first-round pick Taliese Fuaga. Starting every game as a rookie, the Oregon State product finished his inaugural campaign with a 65.7 PFF grade, the 49th-best mark out of 81 eligible players.
Given that tackle is one of the hardest positions to play as a rookie, Fuaga looks like a future cornerstone at tackle. However, while he played left tackle as a rookie, he spent his college years on the right side. If the Saints select Will Campbell, they could move Fuaga back to his native right side and secure both tackle positions.
Even if Campbell doesn’t work out at tackle, New Orleans desperately needs guards. Cesar Ruiz is a solid starter, but the rest of the depth chart needs some help. Whether it’s Derek Carr or a Day 2 rookie, Will Campbell could help the Saints quarterback stay upright and connect with his downfield targets by providing a clean pocket for the passer to step into.
