Security alert sent to Players Union and team security directors.
Per Tom Pelissero, an NFL Network insider, the NFL has issued a security alert. This is in relation to recent home burglaries.
They are organized and skilled criminals that are continuing to target homes of professional athletes, according to Pelissero. The FBI is investigating the burglaries as international organized crime. A South American crime syndicate is suspected to be tied to the recent wave of burglaries.
According to Pelissero’s report, the recent burglaries of Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are also said to be included in the recent wave of burglaries. Linval Joseph, a defensive tackle for the Dallas Cowboys, also had his home burglarized. In the past week, at least one other current NFL player has had their home burglarized.
The report says that the perpetrators do not burglarize homes while residents are inside and are non-confrontational. They reportedly focus on master bedrooms and closets and steal items such as cash, jewelry, watches, and handbags.
The alert offered recommendations, like not posting on social media in real time, keeping valuables out of plain sight, and installing security systems. No further comments have been made by the FBI Office of Public Affairs, who in citing Department of Justice policy, also declined to confirm or deny the existence of an investigation.
