The Ravens, Saints could emerge as favorites for Chiefs star safety Justin Reid this upcoming offseason. According to multiple reports, Reid will be a free agent in March but one analyst believes he could sign with the Los Angeles Chargers. Originally selected in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the star has been a staple for the Chiefs pass defense after making a name for himself with the Houston Texans at the beginning of his NFL tenure. With two Super Bowls under his belt, the safety has been an effective ingredient in disrupting the opposing team’s passing game.
However, the chances of Reid staying with the team beyond this season are low since he’ll demand a bigger contract. Reid is already a championship winner so it shouldn’t surprise anyone if he picks the team that offers the most money. After extending Chris Jones and having a few contracts to worry about, it might not be possible for the Chiefs to retain him on a long-term deal. All good things must come to an end as the veteran could sign with any roster and it shouldn’t be too long before he starts garnering interest as soon as he hits free agency in March.
While he could be a fit for Jim Harbaugh’s stellar secondary, Reid could perform phenomenally under any system as long it will be a contender. The Ravens, Saints could bring out the best in him again just like in the championship era in Kansas City so these two teams could be possible fits.

Helping Baltimore’s secondary
The Baltimore Ravens have one of the best offenses this season since making a few changes in their play-calling and the signing of Derrick Henry. Lamar Jackson continues to play at his peak while Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman are leading the passing corps pack as the top two targets for him. However, it might not be enough for the Ravens to hoist their first Super Bowl trophy since the Joe Flacco days. The offense may be ferocious and have everything going right for them but it probably won’t be enough to make up for the atrocious secondary they’ve been dealing with despite the talent.
The Ravens lost several key free agents including Geno Stone but Baltimore never found a solid replacement which is costing them winnable games. Not every game is going to be a shootout, but a star like Justin Reid could make the passing game harder. Baltimore waived Eddie Jackson after signing him this season to help the position so they need some immediate help. John Harbaugh may have elevated Ar’Darius Washington as a temporary full-time starter but Reid could easily win the job and solve the biggest issue on hand for the team’s defense.
A New Era
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Saints had a lot of promise in their stride after going 2-0 to start the season before losing seven straight matchups. The team may be rebuilding this upcoming offseason after firing Dennis Allen despite denial of that happening. However, even though the offense couldn’t stay healthy, the team’s defense never made it any easier to keep the Saints competitive. Star Tyrann Mathieu signed a new deal this past offseason so they could pair him with Justin Reid to construct themselves a superstar pass defense.
The Saints’ rushing unit remains intact despite Chase Young hitting free agency in 2025, they could make up for it by signing Reid. With Marshon Lattimore gone, they could use some new fresh breath of air to help rejuvenate the team’s spirit. Reid won’t solve all their issues but it’s a step in the right direction in terms of the Saints’ future.
