New Orleans will travel to Green Bay to take on the Packers for Monday Night Football.
The New Orleans Saints fell to 5-9 after losing a thriller to the Washington Commanders and will now travel to Green Bay to take on the 10-4 Packers on Monday Night Football. The odds are heavily stacked against the Saints as they are 13.5 underdogs.
Saints pass rush vs. Jordan Love
The Saints’ pass rush is coming off its best game since 2020, recording 8 sacks against the Washington Commanders. Now the New Orleans defense will face one of the hottest offenses in the league led by Jordan Love. The Packers have scored 30+ points in their last four games and have allowed just three sacks. If the Saints hope to slow down Green Bay they must emphasize getting to the quarterback.
Saints run game vs. Packers run game
It is expected to be 32 degrees at kickoff on Monday with light snow. While this weather doesn’t limit teams to only running the football, both teams are likely to turn to their running games as the main source of offense. The Saints are coming off a lackluster two-game stretch rushing the ball, failing to reach 100 yards rushing as a team in either matchup. Now New Orleans will be down Alvin Kamara and will rely on second-year running back Kendre Miller and veteran Jamaal Williams. Miller has had a promising two-game stretch with flashes of potential. The 2023 third-round pick has been criticized in the past for his lack of availability and his value for the team has been in question. With the opportunity to be RB1 on Monday Night Football, Miller has the chance to prove he belongs and can be the future at running back for the Saints.
Packers running back Josh Jacobs has scored eight touchdowns over the last four games and is amid a career resurgence in Green Bay. The six-year running back has rushed for 1,147 yards and 12 touchdowns on the season averaging 4.3 a carry and will have a chance to add to those stats against the Saints run defense which ranks among the bottom of the league.
Spencer Rattler vs. Packers pass rush
After second-year quarterback Jake Haener struggled against the Commanders in the first half of last week’s matchup the Saints went back to rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler. Rattler was tremendously better than Haener and led the team to a comeback, falling short on a two-point conversion for the win. The rookie will be starting for the fourth time this season facing a Packers defense coming off of a seven-sack game. The Saints offense will have to limit negative plays if they wish to compete with one of the top offenses in the league and that starts with Rattler. The Packers will likely blitz Rattler and the rookie must take advantage and get the ball out quickly and avoid sacks.
