The Saints are interviewing 49ers assistant HC Brandon Staley and Eagles DBs coach Christian Parker for their defensive coordinator job today, per source. They met with Vikings DBs coach Daronte Jones yesterday.
This, obviously, will be a big hire for Kellen Moore’s 1st staff.

Kellen Moore and the new Orleans Saints will interview another Philadelphia Eagles coach for the defensive coordinator job: Vic Fangio’s right hand man Christian Parker. The MMQB’s Albert Breer first reported Parker would be meeting with the Saints, who also interviewed Minnesota Vikings. assistant Daronte Jones and plan to speak with former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley, too.
Parker, Philly’s defensive backs coach, has had tremendous success at a young age (he turned 33 in December) and is highly regarded as someone who connects well with his players, particularly rookies like Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. Both of them played at a high level during the Eagles’ Super Bowl run and gave Parker credit for preparing them for the big leagues. He began working with Fangio on the Denver Broncos and joined him again on the Eagles, and has quickly risen through the coaching ranks.
This is a critical hire for Moore to get right. He’ll call plays on offense and naturally give that side of the ball most of his attention. So getting someone he can trust to run the defense is crucial. Like Moore himself, Parker is a young coach on the rise. Having a couple of fresh-faced 30-year olds leading the rebuild in New Orleans would be a fascinating turn after years of chasing old memories from the Drew Brees and Sean Payton era.
