Moore was a hot commodity during Super Bowl LIX opening night.
While the New Orleans Saints are unfortunately not in the big game, the city of New Orleans has been preparing to host Super Bowl 59 for a while now. The Caesars Superdome, which will host the game on Sunday, played host to fans, media, coaches and players on Monday night for “Super Bowl LIX Opening Night.”
During the event, members of the media were allowed to roam the Superdome and speak to different players and coaches, and one of the hottest interviews was Philadelphia Eagles Offensive Coordinator, Kellen Moore.
As I’m sure you all know by now, Moore is the top candidate for the Saints head coaching vacancy. The Saints are the only team that hasn’t hired a new head coach yet, and while it seems like Moore is a shoo-in for the job, no more contact can be made, and nothing can be finalized until after the Super Bowl.
However, that hasn’t stopped rumors from surfacing and media from asking him about his potential new job. He had a lot to say about potentially becoming a head coach, the Saints, Derek Carr and more on Monday night.
On his interview with the Saints…
“Its’ obviously been a good process. Having an opportunity to meet with Mickey and their leadership group has been great, and it’s set up in a way that allows us to focus on this game and we’ll see what happens after that…I think the big thing is really getting to know people. Certainly, there’s philosophies and things that there’s going to be questions about, but I think it’s an excellent opportunity just to get face-to-face and get to know the people. And get to know the interactions and see the fit that it may be.”
On Derek Carr…
“Derek and I played against each other one year (in college). My senior year, his sophomore year, and I certainly have known Derek for a long time. Tons of respect for him as a quarterback in this league. He’s had a tremendous career and has done a lot of good things.”
On how he’s going to lead…
“I’m going to lead by example. I believe I’ll lead the way I’ve always led. Certainly, in different roles, it dictates certain things you have to do. You understand that as you go through this journey and so I’ve been fortunate enough to be around some of the best in the business to learn and grow from them.”
On if he’ll continue to call plays as head coach…
“Certainly, it’s a passion of mine. Something that had gotten me to this place. You hate to stop doing what you love as you go through this journey.”
On building the Saints offense…
“You build around your players. There are different styles we’ve played over the years and that’s the fun part of it. You have certain things that you have strong feelings about from a coaching perspective, but I think it’s important to do what your players do best and surround yourself with as many opportunities to get those guys in those situations as you can.”
