The Saints fired Head Coach Dennis Allen after a seven-game losing streak and Special Teams Coordinator/Associate Head Coach Darren Rizzi took over and rejuvenated the locker room, leading them to back-to-back wins over the Atlanta Falcons and Cleveland Browns. The Saints would fall to the Los Angeles Rams but knocked off the New York Giants on a game-winning field goal block before dropping their final four games of the season to finish 5-12.
Rizzi went 3-5 despite starting quarterback Derek Carr missing half of those games. With Carr as the starter, Rizzi went 3-1.
The Jets, who fired Head Coach Robert Saleh after a 2-3 start, have begun their search for a new head coach. With Aaron Rodgers potentially leaving, they’re looking for someone who can help rebuild their roster and turn them into a contender in the future, and they think Rizzi could be that guy.
The Jets have also requested interviews with Joe Brady, Arthur Smith, Aaron Glenn, Vance Joseph and others.
There are currently just six head coach opening across the league, and two of those teams (Saints and Jets) plan to speak with Rizzi so far. It will be interesting to see how many, if any, other teams request an interview with him.
