Former NFL quarterback Drew Brees retired from the NFL after the 2020 season but to him, he still thinks he had more in the tank.
Brees told ESPN’s Katherine Terrell that he likely would’ve played for a few more years if his shoulder was still healthy.
“Honestly, man, if my right arm was still working, I probably would’ve played another three years,” Brees said, via ESPN. “My body feels great. My body can play, my right arm can’t. Unfortunately, that’s what kind of forced me to step away. And it was time, too.”
Brees retired after an illustrious 20-year career in the NFL. He led the New Orleans Saints to a Super Bowl title during the 2009 season, as well as numerous other playoff berths.
Brees finished his career with 80,358 passing yards, 571 touchdowns, and 243 interceptions. He also completed 67.7% of his passes.
Brees currently ranks second in NFL history in passing yards and second in touchdowns only to Tom Brady.
Since Brees retired, the Saints have not made the playoffs and have rotated quarterbacks over the last few seasons.
Regardless, the next stop for Brees will be Canton when he gets inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
