Over the course of his incredible NFL career, former Saints and Chargers quarterback Drew Brees broke numerous records and now ranks among the most prolific passers in league history. Unfortunately, those decades of football took a severe toll on his body.
Appearing on Greeny, Brees admitted that he can’t throw at all with his right arm anymore, asserting that the limb simply “does not work.” He said that as a result he has to throw left-handed when he’s tossing the ball around.
“Look,” the future Hall of Famer said on Tuesday on ESPN Radio. “I’ll let you in on a little fact. I don’t throw with my right arm anymore. My right arm does not work. So, when I throw in the backyard right now, I throw left-handed.”
Brees attributes the loss of his arm to the major shoulder surgery he underwent in 2005 that allowed him to continue playing for another decade-and-a-half. He said that he now has “degenerative shoulder” and “all kinds of arthritic changes.”
However, Brees said that he still has some functionality with his arm. He’s able to play a game like pickleball but nothing that involves him lifting the limb above his shoulder.
Nevertheless, Brees said he’d still be playing if not for the injury.
