With Kellen Moore taking over as the New Orleans Saints head coach, it’s only natural to start questioning what players from his previous stop may follow him.
The Wright Way Network has identified three Philadelphia Eagles free agents who Moore should try to bring with him. The list attacks positions of need, but there’s one player that feels like an extreme long shot: Zack Baun.
Everyone on the New Orleans side would gladly welcome Baun back, but why would he want to return? This isn’t about holding on to bad feelings, either. Baun just had the best year of his career with Vic Fangio. If Baun was an offensive player, then this would make more sense because he would have worked directly with Moore in Philadelphia.
However, going back to New Orleans would mean leaving behind the defensive mind that helped Baun finally find clarity in the style of player he’s supposed to be. Even if New Orleans brings in Christian Parker, Eagles passing game coordinator, that’s not the same as Fangio himself.
That being said, Baun may seek out more money in free agency. There’s no other reason he would want to leave Philadelphia. If money is the motive, the Saints don’t fit the mold.
Spotrac has Baun’s contract projection at slightly under $10 million per year. Though he performed at a high level this year, it was his first good year in the league. Also, linebackers don’t typically command high contracts.
The Saints signed Chase Young to a more expensive deal last offseason, but this year it would make more sense to build up with less-expensive players.
