As Colin Cowherd was ripping the Chargers’ lousy performance against the Raiders on Friday’s edition of “The Herd,” Brandon Staley got fired.
Towards the end of Cowherd’s rant about Staley, he mentioned another team that should fire its head coach sooner than later.
Cowherd believes it’s time for the Saints to part ways with Dennis Allen.
“This feels, to me, like New Orleans,” Cowherd said. “I got a roster – I got some things in place I like. I got a quarterback, though Justin Herbert is better than Derek Carr. I’ve got some weapons that are OK. I just don’t have the right coach. The coach, either Dennis Allen or Brandon Staley, is on the wrong side of the ball.”
Allen has been a disaster as a head coach, owning a 21-45 career record.
Despite being in the abysmal NFC South, Allen hasn’t found a way to separate from the pack. That’s a clear sign of incompetence, especially since he got the quarterback he wanted in Derek Carr.
To make matters worse, Allen’s side of the ball isn’t even thriving anymore. Not only are the Saints ranked 30th in sacks, they’ve given up a whopping 131.5 rushing yards per game.
If the Saints fail to make the playoffs, they should fire Allen. Whether they actually will is a different story.
