After watching the Philadelphia Eagles put up 40 points in the Super Bowl while also shutting down Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs offense, Alontae Taylor seen enough to jump on Instagram live to send a message to the next head coach of the New Orleans Saints.
“Kellen Moore, we need the best defensive coordinator you can find that’s available,” Taylor said.
Kellen Moore’s offense was lights out on the biggest stage. As a defender, Taylor took note of the Chiefs remaining scoreless until the last minute of the third quarter.
Taylor told Moore he needs to bring that type of defense to New Orleans: “Who you hire as defensive coordinator, he got to come crazy. We’re trying to play all that. We ain’t playing none of that soft stuff.”
Philadelphia kept Mahomes under duress all night, and they did it without blitzing. The Eagles have been aggressive with a strong duo on the outside at cornerback. The tandem of Quinyon Mitchell and Darius Slay led the Eagles to the best pass defense in the league. They edged the Tennessee Titans by three yards (174.2 vs 177.3.)
Some expect it’ll be former Los Angeles Chargers coach Brandon Staley who steps in at defensive coordinator, but Moore could try to pull someone from the Eagles staff to run a similar defense in New Orleans. One name to watch is Christian Parker, Philly’s defensive backs coach and a longtime Vic Fangio protege.
