The New Orleans Pelicans have signed guard Elfrid Payton and center Josh Oduro to non-guaranteed training camp deals. Both players are expected to join the Birmingham Squadron of the G League following the NBA preseason.
Payton last played in the NBA in the 2021-22 season with the Phoenix Suns. Over the last two seasons, Payton has played in Puerto Rico and for the Fort Wayne/Indiana Mad Ants of the G League. In 32 G League games with the Mad Ants last season, Payton averaged 11.9 points, 9.0 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 steals.
Oduro went undrafted out of Providence College at the 2024 NBA Draft. As senior with the Friars, the 6-foot-9 big man averaged 15.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game.
