The Kings inquired about Chicago’s Zach LaVine, New Orleans’ Brandon Ingram, Brooklyn’s Cam Thomas and Washington’s Kyle Kuzma, league sources said. They looked at smaller moves, “just to change things up,” as one source put it. They even asked Brown if there were moves to make with the roster or the staff that might help, sources said.

Cam Thomas missed a go-ahead three with the Nets down one with six seconds remaining, but Jalen Wilson got fouled while going for an offensive rebound.
The Magic are over the bonus, so Wilson is heading to the line. Orlando is on a 20-2 run over the last seven minutes. – 6:03 PM

man, I’d be heated if I were Jamahl Mosley too. Not a gaping chasm of difference between the contact that rewarded Cam Thomas three free throws and what Cole Anthony got on that heave at the end – 5:27 PM

And the joy of playing has returned. Ball sends one of his teammates flying at least once a game — especially Zach LaVine, his favorite target to rope full-court passes in transition and launch alley-oops for searing dunks. “I get the most easy points when Lonzo’s on the court,” LaVine joked. “Our connection gets better and better the more he plays. He’s so smart out there. His patience and his poise, his defensive rotations — he does a lot for everybody just by being out there.” -via Chicago Tribune / December 30, 2024
Michael Scotto: Pelicans injury updates: Zion Williamson (hamstring strain) is expected to return to full practice next week. He will be week-to-week going forward. Murphy recently addressed how he and his teammates have handled the increasing external noise about potential deals involving the likes of Brandon Ingram, CJ McCollum and even Zion Williamson. “It’s part of the business,” Murphy said in the below video. “I figured it out probably my rookie year, especially when the trade deadline came and they traded away Nickeil [Alexander-Walker]. He was one of my best friends. I was with him every road trip for dinner and all that stuff. And next day he was gone. So you kind of get numb to it and it’s a part of reality. And also you just wish the best for the next person.” -via marcstein.substack.com / December 23, 2024
From McNair down, the Kings are well aware this roster needs an upgrade, if not multiple. More specifically, team sources say they’re prioritizing backup center and the wing spots. There are some familiar names who appear to be back on their radar, league sources said. Among them: Portland’s Jerami Grant, Utah’s John Collins or Washington’s Jonas Valančiūnas and Kyle Kuzma. Brooklyn’s Cam Johnson is known to be of significant interest, as is — to a lesser degree — the Nets’ Dorian Finney-Smith. The notion of adding a high-profile player like Zach LaVine (Chicago) or Brandon Ingram (New Orleans) is believed to be very unlikely, but the Kings have made a habit during the McNair-Wilcox era of exploring any and all possibilities that might improve the team, even if they don’t appear to make sense at first glance. -via New York Times / December 21, 2024
Josh Robbins: The Wizards and Kyle Kuzma have identified Monday’s game as Kuzma’s potential return to action, team sources told @TheAthleticNBA. Kuzma has missed Washington’s last 12 games because of sprained rib cartilage — an injury similar to the injury Darrell Green suffered during the NFC playoffs in early 1988, when Green hurdled the Chicago Bears’ Cap Boso for a 52-yard punt return for a touchdown at Soldier Field. Kuzma suffered his injury on Nov. 27. A determination on Kuzma’s playing status is expected in the hours leading up to Monday night’s game against the Knicks at Capital One Arena. -via Twitter @JoshuaBRobbins / December 29, 2024

The apron math will impact several oft-mentioned trade candidates around the NBA, such as Nets swingman Cam Johnson and Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma. That was another common warning I heard from league personnel at Showcase. The 28-year-old Johnson is now sniping 42.2% of his 3-point tries this season and has generated considerable trade interest from contenders and playoff hopefuls in need of a two-way wing. Any team who wants to acquire Johnson, though, knows that Johnson’s trade number isn’t merely his $22.5 million salary for this 2024-25 campaign. Apron-conscious clubs must also account for Johnson’s $27 million “apron salary” that would appear on the books of any apron team because of the unlikely bonuses within his four-year, $94 million contract. -via marcstein.substack.com / December 25, 2024
Brian Lewis: Jordi Fernandez on Cam Thomas: “Yeah. so he’ll be on a restriction. I’m not going to tell you guys the minutes for obvious reasons. And I’m not going to tell you if he starts…but we need CT to be CT. We all know how efficient he’s been. His superpower is scoring.” #Nets -via Twitter @NYPost_Lewis / December 29, 2024
