James Borrego has removed himself from consideration for the Detroit Pistons’ head coach opening. Borrego was a candidate for the job after the Pistons parted ways with Monty Williams. The job opened up late in the process after Detroit hired Trajan Langdon to run the front office.
Borrego is currently associate head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans under Willie Green. Borrego was previously a head coach with the Charlotte Hornets.
Borrego was also a head coach candidate this cycle for the Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers. The Lakers instead hired J.J. Redick, while the Cavaliers hired Kenny Atkinson. It is believed Borrego was the other finalist for the Cleveland job.
