Throughout the week the Pelicans spent in Nashville for training camp, there was a constant buzz among people in the organization surrounding Brandon Ingram’s phenomenal play in practice sessions. After one practice, Green said that Ingram’s “not just fitting in, he’s dominating.” A major factor in the excitement felt by those close to the team was that Ingram is apparently making a conscious effort to modify his shot profile and eliminate some of the inefficient midrange jumpers that have become a staple in his game.

More on this storyline
Any time a player finds out — directly or indirectly — that his current team doesn’t view him as part of the organization’s future, there will inevitably be some lingering tension. This situation is even more complicated considering what Brandon Ingram has meant to the organization in its post-Anthony Davis rebuild over the last six seasons and that Ingram has made it clear behind the scenes he would prefer to stay in New Orleans. However, with the Pelicans’ financial restrictions, a potential big-money extension for Trey Murphy III soon and Ingram’s reluctance to take less than what he views as his true value, it’s highly unlikely the two sides will find common ground. Then, to make matters even more complicated, there isn’t much of a market of potential Ingram suitors. If there were a team excited about bringing him in and giving him the money he’s looking for, that deal would’ve already happened. -via New York Times / October 11, 2024
Their American colleagues are aware a void is coming. “There are a lot of people in the league thinking about this,” said Brandon Ingram, Williamson’s teammate on the Pels and a former teammate to James who was also a Team USA member for the 2023 World Cup. “I think it’s gonna be good for whoever steps in that position to take advice from the guys who came before them and see their approach to the game. It’s got to be somebody with the personality of LeBron, personality of Kevin Durant, personality of Steph Curry.” Williamson has a shoe deal with Jordan brand, and Morant is a Nike signature athlete. They have already earned supermax contracts and All-Star berths. -via New York Times / October 8, 2024
Oleh Kosel: Brandon Ingram will not play against the Orlando Magic today, per Willie Green. The head coach says he’s fine physically, so it’s not injury-related. It’s a collective decision based on various factors including BI’s rehab over the summer. -via Twitter @OlehKosel / October 7, 2024
