No, not the Pelicans player
Happy 4th of July, y’all. LSU got some crootin’ fireworks of their own today when four-star defensive tackle Zion Williams announced his commitment to LSU.

Hailing from Lufkin, Williams was being pursued by Bo Davis while he was the defensive line coach at Texas. Once Davis got hired on by LSU, that relationship continued and Williams is set to follow Davis to Baton Rouge.
“I feel like coach Bo had my best intentions and wants to get me to a position where I can support a family when I have one,” Williams said to On3. “It meant a lot to me when he says that he thinks that I have 3-year potential, but I’ll get a degree before I leave.”
Williams is a mountain of a young man, listed at 6’5” and 330 pounds. He’s a composite four-star recruit, and ESPN has him in the highest regards. ESPN lists Williams as a top-200 recruit, while On3’s composite rankings lists him as the No. 366 player and 31st best defensive tackle.
LSU’s had no problem recruiting offensive players, but the other side of the ball has taken some time considering Brian Kelly replaced literally the entire defensive staff. Now however the defensive commits are starting to roll in. Tampa area edge rusher Jesse Harrold committed about two weeks ago, Williams is on board today, and there’s a chance LSU adds another defensive line commit tomorrow when Damien Shanklin, a four-star edge from Indianapolis announces his decision. Shanklin is choosing between LSU, Alabama, and Ohio State and most expect the No. 47 overall player in the 2025 cycle to pick the Tigers.
LSU’s class is ranked 4th nationally by On3 trailing Ohio State, Alabama, and Georgia. One thing to keep in mind, however, is LSU has by far and away the fewest commits of the four. Ohio State has 22, Bama has 20, Georgia has 17, while LSU only has 13. Quality over quantity.
