The season tips off next Monday
The college basketball season is on the horizon and Kim Mulkey’s Tigers enter the 2024-25 season ranked 7th in both the preseason AP and Coaches polls.
Defending national champion South Carolina is, unsurprisingly, atop both polls. The Gamecocks received 27 of a possible 30 first place votes in the AP Poll, and got 27 out of 31 first place votes in the coaches poll. UConn, USC, and Texas are 2-4 in both polls. Texas is 5th in AP and UCLA is 6th, while the order is reversed in the coaches poll.
LSU unofficially began its campaign on Thursday night with an exhibition match against Xavier. The Tigers won 114-53. Flau’Jae Johnson led all players with 30 points and 10 rebounds, while Aneesah Morrow had 19 and 10.
LSU was projected to finish third in the SEC this season, behind South Carolina and Texas. Johnson and Morrow both landed on the coaches preseason first-team All-SEC, while sophomore Mikaylah Williams was named to the second-team.
LSU’s 2024-2025 season officially begins next Monday, November 4, at home against Eastern Kentucky. The Tigers will have one last exhibition on Wednesday against LSU-Alexandria.
