LSU does just enough in the second half to improve to 19-0
It wasn’t pretty, much like many of their wins this season, but #5 LSU made just enough plays to beat Vanderbilt and improve to 19-0 on the season.
The Dores gave LSU all they wanted through three quarters, and LSU was clinging to a 58-57 lead heading into the fourth quarter, but the Tiger offense got hot in the fourth quarter knocking down six of its final eight shots to win 83-77.
With 23 points and 15 rebounds, Aneesah Morrow joined rarified air as she became the eighth player in NCAA history with 2500 career points and 1500 career rebounds. It was also her ninth consecutive double-double.
Flau’Jae Johnson led LSU in scoring with 25 points, while Mikaylah Williams had 20. It really was a three-woman show with Johnson-Morrow-Williams as no other Tiger had more than six points Monday night.
Vanderbilt gave LSU all they wanted Monday night, but the Tigers were far more active on the glass and saved the day for LSU. LSU out-rebounded Vanderbilt 45-25 and had three times as many offensive rebounds, 21, as Vandy’s seven. LSU was also able to pound Vanderbilt inside with 44 points in the paint and the Tigers turned their 21 offensive rebounds into 17 second chance points.
LSU will have the rest of the week off before hitting the road for a Sunday game against Florida; that game will tip off at noon and will be carried on SEC Network. Their biggest test of the season, however, looms as the Tigers will head to South Carolina in 10 days to take on the Gamecocks next Thursday.
