A small bit of redemption from Friday night
I’m making an executive decision here and deciding that the less we say about Friday’s game the better. But! As an—ahem—journalism graduate I’m legally required to mention LSU dropped the series opener against Alabama in the most D I S G U S T I N G way possible Friday night. If you want to seek out the ending on your own accord go ahead, I’m not going to link it because I can’t stomach to watch it again.
But what’s done is done and LSU was able to shake off the brutal end to win game two of the Bama series 6-3.
Luke Holman returned to Tuscaloosa and got the win over his former team. Holman may not have been dominant (5.2 innings, 4 hits, 2 earned runs, 4 walks vs. 2 strikeouts) but he was good enough for LSU to even the series.
Gavin Guidry was credited with the save, his third of the season, after pitching the final two innings of the game. Guidry didn’t allow a run and got six of the seven batters he faced out.
Tommy White continued to be productive at the top of the lineup as the junior went 2-5 and drove in two runs in the second inning.

With the game tied at 2, Jake Brown brought home Ashton Larson home by way of a fielder’s choice. Brown’s RBI gave LSU a 3-2 lead and the Tigers wouldn’t surrender that advantage for the rest of the afternoon.
Josh Pearson drove in Bear Jones in the seventh to push LSU’s lead to 4-2. Pearson was scored by a Michael Braswell triple, and Braswell was able to come home thanks to a wild pitch. LSU put up three runs in the seventh to extend its lead to 6-2, but Alabama was able to get a run back in the home half of the inning.
With the win LSU pushed its record to 10-16 in SEC play. The Tigers came into this weekend needing to win the series to have better odds at making the NCAA Tournament and dropping that Friday game was brutal. LSU will need to win game 3 Sunday to make up for it and that’s no easy task for this team: the Tigers are 1-7 in conference play in game threes this season.
First pitch for tomorrow’s game is set for 1:00 and the game can be streamed on SECNetwork+.
