Another big addition. Literally.
Another day, another transfer portal addition and the Tigers have added its 11th player out of the transfer portal, this time it’s someone who Bo Davis knows very well.
Redshirt freshman defensive tackle Sydir Mitchell is the latest player to join LSU’s 2025 class. Mitchell was a consensus four-star prospect coming out of New Jersey, and committed to play for Bo Davis at Texas. In nine games played across two seasons, Mitchell has been credited with seven tackles. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
Listed at 6’6” and 350 pounds, Mitchell is, quite literally, a big get. Best case scenario he turns into the second coming of Tyler Shelvin, and at worst he is a space-eating nose tackle that can rotate in for guys like Dom McKinley, Ahmad Breaux, and Jacobian Guillory.
LSU was glaringly weak in two defensive areas this season: safety and defensive tackle, and so far they’re doing as good a job as you could expect to remedy the DT spot. LSU will get McKinley, Breaux, and Guillory all back next season; they’ll also get JUCO transfer Shone Washington back for a second season in Baton Rouge; and don’t forget, Bo Davis signed four defensive tackles in this 2025 high school class: Brandon Brown, Zion Williams, Dilan Battle, and Walter Mathis. With the addition of Mitchell out of the portal, that would give LSU nine defensive tackles for the 2025 season, a far cry from where they were this season.
