LSU’s offense no-shows Saturday night
The LSU offense (44-16) was completely shut down by Stanford ace NiJaree Canady Saturday night as the Cardinal shutout the Tigers 3-0 to force a winner-take-all game three tonight in Palo Alto.
LSU was limited to just two hits Saturday and five total baserunners. It was the complete opposite of LSU’s offense on Friday night when the Tigers scored 11 runs and had a season-high 16 hits including three home runs.
“Our team was slow starting today, but anytime you’re facing a pitcher like NiJaree Cannady, it is extremely tough, and she had a great game tonight,” Beth Torina said. “Going into tomorrow, we have to go back to the drawing board and play the game more aggressively, make better decisions at the plate, and go back to how we were feeling Friday night compared to how we started today.”
Kelley Lynch got the start for LSU inside the circle and pitched a pretty good game. She threw all seven innings, gave up three runs, and seven hits. She might not have been as dominant as Canady, but Lynch pitched good enough for LSU to win. Credit to Canady for absolutely suffocating the Tiger offense.
LSU and Stanford will play tonight at 8:30 P.M. on ESPN2 with the winner advancing to the Women’s College World Series. It is one of five winner-take-all games happening today.
