LSU’s football program is reportedly receiving a welcome, but unexpected boost.
According to The Advocate‘s Wilson Alexander, Nick Storz is listed on the Tigers’ active roster and will wear No. 48. The former pitcher was planning to devote his focus to football last year, but he could not compete due to a medical issue.
An addition to LSU’s roster: tight end Nick Storz! His career was thought to be over with a medical issue, but the 6-foot-6 former pitcher remained with the program. He’ll wear No. 48

Ed Orgeron, LSU’s coach at the time, told Alexander last August that Storz’s health setbacks would likely end his football career.
“We’re not sure yet. We’re still getting some information. It’s unfortunate,” Orgeron said. “I don’t know if he’ll be able to play football again. We still have a little research to do there. But it looks like that’s going to happen.”
The Detroit Tigers selected Storz in the 31st round of the 2017 MLB Draft, but he enrolled in LSU instead. Storz allowed one run in 8.2 innings on the mound for LSU in 2020. Multiple arm surgeries ultimately derailed his pitching career.
While the Brooklyn native didn’t accrue any catches as a tight end in 10 games, he did record one tackle.
With new head coach Brian Kelly seeking reinforcements at tight end, Storz is an intriguing addition for the Tigers. Perhaps he’ll see some playing time in LSU’s spring game on April 23.
