Tigers also add a four-star DB from Nashville
LSU got some good news on the recruiting front heading into the weekend as three-star wide receiver Phillip Wright III out of Destrehan announced his commitment to LSU.
Wright gives LSU 21 total commits in its 2025 class and the third wide receiver joining Derek Meadows and TaRon Francis.
Wright is listed as a three-star prospect but if you look at his offers he’s got interest from some of the elite in college football. In fact, Wright was previously committed to Michigan for about a month but backed off that commitment last week. Wright also has an offer from Georgia.
Listed at 5’11” and 175 pounds, Wright is the No. 69 (nice…) ranked receiver in the class of 2025 and the No. 12 player in the state of Louisiana. He’s got legit track speed with a reported 4.32 40-yard dash and runs a 10.46 in the 100 meter dash. He has an LSU track offer as well.
“I had a good time connecting with the coaches and the players around the (program). It was a good visit,” Wright told On3. “That (track offer) is big for me because I always wanted to experience that next level of track and racing some of the nation’s best. I would love to see how that would work out for me.”
Wright is the second commit in as many days for the Tigers. On Thursday, the Tigers dipped into Nashville and plucked four-star safety CJ Jimcoily out of Tennessee. Jimcoily picked LSU over Alabama, Tennessee, and Stanford.
“The coaching staff and the environment at LSU felt like family,” Jimcoily told On3. “In Louisiana, it is different. My dad is from Louisiana, I have family there, and that is how the people are in that state. It is a big family in Louisiana and the people at LSU that recruited me made me feel that way. That feeling was different from anywhere else.
“The people at LSU were a big reason why I committed to LSU. They care for me and want the best for me. LSU showed me where I could get a good degree, internships I could take part in and how I could build strong relationships for my future as well. That was a factor for me also.
“I knew not going to Stanford I would have to give something up academically, but LSU showed me a great, how I can still get a strong degree and still be around great people and be developed as a football player. It came down to the wire, but I had that feeling LSU. Things clicked, the feeling came to me and LSU is the school.”
Jimcoily credited LSU safeties coach Jake Olsen and former LSU safety/Tennessee native Jacoby Stevens, now an assistant within the LSU program, as big factors in his recruitment.
LSU’s 2025 class is still sitting at No. 3 nationally in the industry rankings, trailing only Ohio State and Alabama.
