Paul Skenes made his debut for the Pittsburgh Pirates today and his girlfriend, social media sensation Olivia Dunne, has been there supporting him. But it hasn’t been an easy day at PNC Park to say the least.
During today’s game between the Pirates and the Chicago Cubs, Dunne was asked for what the moment felt like for her to see Skenes go out like that. Dunne admitted that it’s harder for her as a fan because she can’t control the situation at all.
“I know how hard he’s worked for this moment and all the hours… this is probably one of my favorite moments I’ve ever seen with him. I’m just so proud,” Dunne said.
“I always say: It’s way harder to be the person in the stands watching because I’m not in control. I don’t know how to throw a 100 mile-per-hour fastball. It’s hard to have no control… but I know he’s got this and I’ve just got a lot of confidence in him.
It was certainly a strong outing for an MLB debut, no matter the opposition.
In four innings pitched, Skenes had seven strikeouts though also gave up two walks, six hits and three earned runs. Not the best possible outing from a longevity standpoint, but a strong start nonetheless.
