No real surprises here
LSU’s two favorite sons, Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels, each won marquee awards at the NFL Honors ceremony.
Daniels was named the league’s Offensive Rookie of the Year, while Burrow won Comeback Player of the Year for the second time in his career.
Daniels authored maybe the greatest season a rookie quarterback has ever had. He threw for 3,568 yards and ran for an NFL rookie record 892 yards and led Washington from 4-13 a season ago to an appearance in the NFC Championship Game.
Burrow had his best season as a professional and the only reason he didn’t walk away with league MVP honors was because the Bengals just missed out on the playoffs. But from a raw numbers perspective, no quarterback was better than Burrow. He led the NFL in completions (460), attempts (652), yards (4,918), touchdowns (43) and yards per game (289.3), all while completing 70 percent of his passes. Burrow was bogged down by one of the worst defenses and offensive lines in the NFL but in spite of all that he helped Cincy go from 4-8 at the start of December to 9-8 and just on the outside looking in for the playoffs.
It’s the second time Burrow has won Comeback Player of the Year, his first came in 2021 after his rookie season was cut short by an ACL tear. Burrow’s 2023 season ended after a wrist injury, and one year later he reminded everyone why he’s one of the best quarterbacks in football. Hopefully next season he’ll get some more prestigious accolades.
