Chase and Jefferson are back as teammates…well kind of
The Associated Press announced the 2024 NFL All-Pro team and former Tigers Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, and Derek Stingley were all voted to the first team.
Chase and Jefferson, the formidable 1-2 punch of LSU’s dynamic 2019 national championship team, were the only players to be unanimously be voted to the first-team, going a perfect 50 for 50 among voters.
Chase had the greatest receiving season in Cincinatti Bengals history en route to his first All-Pro selection. Chase broke his own franchise records for catches (127) and yards (1708), and broke the Cincy single season record for receiving touchdowns with 17. He became the sixth receiver to ever win the triple crown, and has a chance to win Offensive Player of the Year though the honor likely will go to Philadelphia Eagles’ running back Saquon Barkley.
Jefferson has now been named an All-Pro for the second time in his career. His first selection came in 2022 when he was also named the league’s Offensive Player of the Year. Jefferson caught 103 passes for 1503 yards and tied a career-best with 10 touchdowns.
While both are still early on in their careers, both Chase and Jefferson are building Hall of Fame worthy résumés. They each have been voted to four Pro Bowls, have been named All-Pros on at least one occasion, and twice in Jefferson’s case; Chase was the Rookie of the Year in 2021 and just won the prestigious triple crown, while Jefferson won his Offensive Player of the Year award the following season.
While Chase and Jefferson are both incredible, let’s not forget that Derek Stingley is enjoying the best season of his career as well. Stingley started all 17 games this season and had career-highs in tackles (54), passes defensed (18), and TFLs (4), while tying his career-high with five interceptions. According to NextGenStats, Stingley also posted the lowest passer rating and completion percentage among cornerbacks.
Stingley is the first Houston Texans’ defensive back to be named an All-Pro and the franchise’s first All-Pro selection since DeAndre Hopkins in 2019; he’s also the second defensive player in Texans’ history to be named an All-Pro, joining J.J. Watt.
Last week Chase, Jefferson, and Stingley were also voted to the Pro Bowl, along with Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels.
