Recapping where all the former Tigers are ahead of the 2024 season
The 2024 NFL begins tonight, meaning it’s time to dig through all 32 rosters looking for Tigers! 2023 was a disappointing year filled with injuries for former Tigers, but 2024 could be a massive bounce-back with some exciting new faces. We will go team-by-team and break down which Tigers are on the team. We will go in order of how interesting the teams are, so we begin with the team we know you’re all here to see:
CINCINATTI BENGALS: QB Joe Burrow, WR Ja’Marr Chase
It finally happened… Joe Burrow had a normal training camp! No injuries, no pandemic, no emergency surgery… just a new hairdo.

At the time of writing, our other beloved Bengal Ja’Marr Chase is still awaiting a massive contract extension. If it’s like Joe last year, it will be signed before the first snap Sunday, but you can never be sure with a Mike Brown franchise.
The Bengals hype train was off the tracks last preseason, but various injuries to Joe derailed it quickly. This year has to be different. It has to be the year. The Super Bowl is in New Orleans and I think it would be cool as hell if Joe and Ja’Marr won a second championship in the Superdome.
Week 1 matchup: vs Patriots on Sunday, 9/8 (Noon on CBS)
WASHINGTON COMMANDERS: QB Jayden Daniels, K Cade York
Unless I’m missing someone somewhere, Jayden Daniels and Joe Burrow will be the first pair of LSU QBs to start in the NFL at the same time since David Woodley and Bert Jones in 1982. That’s pretty cool! It will probably be a rough season for Jayden on a 4-13 team that gave up the second-most sacks in the league last year, but if there’s anyone who can handle it, it’s a guy who started three years for Herm Edwards’ Arizona State. Also in Week 3 the Commanders will travel to Cincinnati for a Monday night matchup. Two Heisman-winning LSU QBs battling in prime time… I could cry.
Week 1 matchup: at Buccaneers on Sunday, 9/8 (3:25 on FOX)
MINNESOTA VIKINGS: WR Justin Jefferson, G Ed Ingram, DB Jay Ward
All due respect to Ed and Jay, but we are here for Justin. The human highlight reel will now be catching passes from Sam Darnold. That’s fine. Jets is amazing and will still find a way to rack up 1,400 yards and 10 jaw-dropping TDs. He’s so good. If you want to watch a game where an LSU wide receiver will try to catch passes from a bad QB, boy do I have news for you.
Week 1 matchup: at Giants on Sunday, 9/8 (Noon on FOX)
NEW YORK GIANTS: WR Malik Nabers, DB Cor’Dale Flott
Malik Nabers will attempt to do what Odell Beckham did exactly a decade earlier and inject life into a boring New York Giants team. I’m excited to see how his physicality translates to the professional level. I’m not excited to see him in this uniform.

Week 1 matchup: vs Vikings on Sunday, 9/8 (Noon on FOX)
HOUSTON TEXANS: CB Derek Stingley Jr, DE Danielle Hunter
No team has progressed more in the past calendar year than the Houston Texans. Their breakout 2023 season inspired them to pursue veteran upgrades on offense in Stefon Diggs and Joe Mixon, but they also added LSU Tiger Danielle Hunter, who finished top 5 in sacks. Along with Derek Stingley who finished top 5 in interceptions, that’s a very nice pair of Tigers on what should be a thoroughly entertaining team this year.
Week 1 matchup: at Colts on Sunday, 9/8 (Noon on CBS)
JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS: WR Brian Thomas Jr, DT Mekhi Wingo, DT Jordan Jefferson
On one hand, I want to appreciate the Jaguars for drafting three Tigers this year, all of whom made the active roster. On the other hand, this team employs Matt House, a person who deserves a lifetime of ridicule and scorn for what he did to the 2023 LSU football team. So I’m in a tough spot here.
Week 1 matchup: at Dolphins on Sunday, 9/8 (Noon on CBS)
TENNESSEE TITANS: DE Arden Key, S Jamal Adams, C Lloyd Cushenberry, DE Ali Gaye
FOUR Tigers! I feel bad making them the third AFC South team… but respect you guys!
Week 1 matchup: at Bears on Sunday, 9/8 (Noon on CBS)
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS: S Tyrann Mathieu, TE Foster Moreau
I’m not gonna try to talk you into them. We have too many cool football players to focus on.
Week 1 matchup: vs Panthers on Sunday, 9/8 (Noon on FOX)
MIAMI DOLPHINS: WR Odell Beckham Jr, LB Duke Riley, LS Blake Ferguson
Odell has accepted he is at the WR3 phase of his career and I think bouncing around fun teams for one year at a time is a cool way for a receiver past his prime to live when he’s already got a ring. Riley has carved out a solid role and we are still guaranteed two Ferguson Bowls this year.
Week 1 matchup: vs Jaguars on Sunday, 9/8 (Noon on CBS)
PITTSBURGH STEELERS: LB Patrick Queen, DB Donte Jackson
I truly don’t have much to say here except these are two dudes. Please don’t injure Joe Burrow.
Week 1 matchup: at Falcons on Sunday, 9/8 (Noon on FOX)
CLEVELAND BROWNS: S Grant Delpit, G Ethan Pocic
Delpit is back in No. 9, which he had his incredible 2018 season in. Pocic returns as part of an offensive line that was formidable last year.
Week 1 matchup: vs Cowboys on Sunday, 9/8 (3:25 on FOX)
LOS ANGELES CHARGERS: WR DJ Chark, DB Kristian Fulton
Fulton had a rough last two years in Tennessee, so hopfully he gets a fresh start here. As for Chark I couldn’t be happier he’s out of Carolina. Can’t say the same for two other guys…
Week 1 matchup: vs Raiders on Sunday, 9/8 (3:05 on CBS)
CAROLINA PANTHERS: G Damien Lewis
I just hope Damien has fun and make lots of money. The Panthers also had Terrace Marshall Jr. and K’Lavon Chaisson, but they were cut after training camp. Normally I would chastise a team for releasing two key contributors to the 2019 team… but they need fresh starts somewhere that isn’t Carolina.
Week 1 matchup: at Saints on Sunday, 9/8 (Noon on FOX)
LOS ANGELES RAMS: DB Tre’Davious White, LB Omar Speights
I’m so bummed Tre never got to a Super Bowl on any of those Bills teams. Also apparently Omar Speights is good at football. Matt House is so lucky I have a day-job that requires me to be professional so I can’t say how I really feel about him.
Week 1 matchup: at Lions on Sunday, 9/8 (7:20 on NBC)
NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS: WR Kayshon Boutte, DL Davon Godchaux
I am so curious to see how Kayshon looks with competent QB play. Other than that I have no interest in watching the 2024 Patriots.
Week 1 matchup: at Bengals on Sunday, 9/8 (Noon on CBS)
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS: RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire
The two-time defending Super Bowl champions still have one LSU Tiger on their roster. Clyde will unfortunately miss the first four games of the season due to illness, likely a mental health struggle with PTSD he spoke about recently. We all probably remember what he went through during the Fiesta Bowl, but Clyde was also on the scene at the awful shooting at the Chiefs Super Bowl parade. He’s an amazing guy and it’s heartbreaking to know what he’s going through. If you’re reading this, send some good vibes his way.
Week 1 matchup: vs Ravens on Thursday, 9/5 (7:20 on NBC)
BUFFALO BILLS: LS Reid Ferguson
He snaps longs. I don’t know what else to tell you.
Week 1 matchup: vs Cardinals on Sunday, 9/8 (Noon on CBS)
DALLAS COWBOYS: LB Damone Clark
Clark has bounced back from that pre-Combine procedure to become a fixture in a very good Dallas defense.
Week 1 matchup: at Browns on Sunday, 9/8 (3:25 on FOX)
NEW YORK JETS: CB Jarrick Bernard-Converse
From transfer to 6th-round pick to the active roster for a dominant defense. Awesome to see.
Week 1 matchup: at 49ers on Monday, 9/9 (7:15 on ABC)
DETROIT LIONS: DL Mekhi Wingo
The 2023 Lions were so much fun. I’m so glad they have a Tiger now. I’m ready to bite some damn kneecaps.
Week 1 matchup: vs Rams on Sunday, 9/8 (7:20 on NBC)
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES: LB Devin White
Another team that has won way too many games despite being Tiger-less the last few years.
Week 1 matchup: vs Eagles on Friday, 9/6 in Brazil! (7:15 on Peacock)
TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS: WR Trey Palmer
I already claimed him last year. Now that the other Tigers are gone we’re DEFINITELY claiming him.
Week 1 matchup: vs Commanders on Sunday, 9/8 (3:25 on FOX)
SEATTLE SEAHAWKS: G Anthony Bradford
Sure!
Week 1 matchup: vs Broncos on Sunday, 9/8 (3:05 on CBS)
ARIZONA CARDINALS: LB BJ Ojulari
BJ unfortunately suffered a torn ACL and will miss the entire 2024 season. That’s very unfortunate for him, but hopefully he still has a long career ahead of him. I’m mentioning it here because while their won’t be any Tigers active for the Cardinals this year, they don’t deserve our scorn.
