Kim Mulkey and staff get one of the biggest names available in the portal
The 2025-26 LSU women’s basketball roster is taking shape by way of its No. 1 competitor within the SEC.
Former South Carolina guard MiLaysia Fulwiley announced today that she would be transferring to LSU. A rising junior, Fulwiley will have two more years of eligibility remaining.
The All-SEC guard is the league’s reigning Sixth Woman of the Year and this past year average 11.7 points, 2.0 assists, and 2.8 rebounds. Fulwiley did all that despite playing an average of 18 minutes a contest and she was viewed as the No. 5 overall player in the portal.
Fulwiley’s been an absolute force coming off the bench and was part of a Gamecocks squad who has made each of the past two national championship games. She entered her name into the portal shortly after Carolina lost to UConn, and the decision seems to have been accelerated when the Gamecocks added Florida State star Ta’Niya Latson.
Now Fulwiley is headed to Baton Rouge where she’ll hope to carve out a starting role alongside Flau’Jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams. For whatver it’s worth, Fulwiley has only started three games in two years at Columbia so we’ll have to see how she adapts to taking on a larger role.
“I’m excited to welcome MiLaysia as the newest member of our LSU Tiger family!” Kim Mulkey said. “She’s bringing her incredible playmaking ability to Baton Rouge, standing out as one of the most electrifying talents in college basketball. Her ability to impact winning has been clear throughout her career, and we can’t wait to see her shine in purple and gold at the PMAC soon!”
Fulwiley can certainly fill it up. While she averaged 11 points the past two years, it’s about a 25 points per game average on per-40-minute basis. She’s incredible in transition and while her three-point shooting dipped from her freshman year to sophomore year (34 percent to 26 percent) she’s a 30-percent shooter for her career.
LSU’s roster as currently constructed is interesting to say the least. As it stands right now, LSU has nine guards and only three forwards. The Tigers are going to have to add, at minimum, one more post player and LSU is currently in hot pursuit for former Wisconsin Serah Williams.
