LSU’s doing some serious work in the portal
LSU’s busy weekend in the transfer portal continued into Monday as the Tigers added two more defenders to bolster its 2025 roster.
Florida edge Jack Pyburn and Virginia Tech cornerback Mansoor Delane both announced they would be transferring to LSU. They are the sixth and seventh portal additions for Brian Kelly’s staff since the portal opened last Monday.
Pyburn was Florida’s second leading tackler this season with 60. He had four TFLs, a sack, and an interception all while coming off of an ACL tear that ended his 2023 season. Pyburn played in all 12 games for Florida and started the final eight; he’ll compete for a starting position next season as LSU has to replace both Bradyn Swinson and Saivion Jones.
Delane is, so far at least, the biggest addition as far as portal rankings are concerned. He is viewed as the No. 2 corner available in the portal. Delane has 146 tackles, two forced fumbles, six interceptions and 16 pass breakups in his career. He earned Freshman All-American honors in 2022 and will have one season of eligibility remaining.
Delane is the second corner that LSU’s added out of the transfer portal, joining former Floria Gator Ja’Keem Jackson. This is why you bring Corey Raymond back. The corner back room needed a talent infusion and Raymond was a big part in bringing in Delane, Jackson, and incoming freshmen DJ Pickett and Aidan Anding.
Pyburn popped earlier in the day, while Delane announced his decision around 3:00 in the afternoon. They join tight end Bauer Sharp (Oklahoma), cornerback Ja’Keem Jackson (Florida), wide receiver Barion Brown (Kentucky), defensive end Jimari Butler (Nebraksa) and quarterback Michael Van Buren (Mississippi State) in LSU’s transfer class that is currently ranked as the best in the nation.
LSU doesn’t appear to be done yet, either. There’s a lot of smoke that LSU will add former Oklahoma wide receiver Nic Anderson and Virginia Tech center Braelin Moore. We’ll have that update for you if/when those two join the class.
