I guess we just don’t do the traditional look anymore?
LSU will, once again, wear a different uniform in their final outing inside Tiger Stadium this season against Oklahoma (6:00 P.M., ESPN).
LSU’s social media accounts announced that the Tigers will be donning the white-purple-white alternates, which, in my opinion, is the best looking alternate uniforms across all sports.
The problem that many have, however, is that this is the going to be the sixth different time LSU wears something other than their classic and iconic yellow helmets, white jerseys, and yellow pants.
If you lost count, LSU wore the “traditional” yellow-purple-yellow alternate against UCLA. Sure! It’s not my favorite look, and it robbed us of a chance to see LSU’s iconic look against UCLA’s beautiful blues but LSU normally wears these purple tops with the yellow jerseys once a year so it’s fine.
Next, against South Alabama, LSU kept the yellow helmet and white jersey…but that time they paired it with the white pants. The Tigers wore that look last season against Army, and the general consensus is that combination doesn’t work.
A look that does work however is LSU’s all white uniforms, which they wore against Arkansas and the Tigers ended up playing its best game of the season that night in Fayetteville. LSU wore the all-whites the following week against Texas A&M to counter the Aggies all-black look.
So with four uniforms worn and the white-purple-whites still in the chamber, LSU had to be out of alternate uniforms, right? Wrong! LSU surprised everyone last week with the rare YELLOW JERSEYS against Vanderbilt, which look nice on Denham High but I’m not sure if the white-yellow-white work for LS-friggin-U.
Which leads us to this Saturday against the Sooners where LSU will, once again, wear something other than its traditional look. People have very big feelings about this and I don’t blame them!
LSU football’s traditional look is one of the best in all of sports. Wearing one (1) alternate a year is fine, but I’m drawing a line at five alternates and literally half the season wearing something other than the yellow-white-yellows.
What likely happened is the seniors said they wanted to wear these alternates for their senior night game, and I get that. Plus, should we really care what color shirt and pants and helmet a bunch of college athletes want to wear? No! But I don’t know, LSU has an iconic look and it just feels like you’re losing your identity when you keep wearing other unis.
What do, y’all think? Am I just being an old man yelling at a cloud? Or is this one time too many?
