As if LSU’s season-opening defeat at the hands of USC wasn’t bad enough, the Tigers reportedly suffered a devastating loss to their offensive backfield.
Per Wilson Alexander of NOLA.com, “LSU running back John Emery has suffered another torn ACL and is expected to miss the rest of the season.”
Emery is reported to have torn the ligament at Tuesday’s practice after leading the Tigers in rushing on Sunday night. This is the second time he’s injured his ACL in two years.
Emery chose to return to the Bayou for a sixth college season and is one of just two remaining players from LSU‘s 2019 national championship team.
If this ends up being it for his Tigers career the Saint Rose, Louisiana native tallied 1,123 yards and 14 touchdowns on 223 carries (5.0 YPC).
You hate to see any athlete go through what Emery has had to go through. Now Brian Kelly‘s offense will likely turn to a combination of Kaleb Jackson and Josh Williams moving forward.
Hopefully this isn’t the last we see of the former five-star recruit in an LSU uniform.
LSU will look to bounce back against Nicholls in its home opener on Saturday night. The game will be broadcast across SECN+ and ESPN+ at 7:30 PM ET.
