Getting the midweek slate off on the right foot
LSU improved to 4-0 on the young 2025 college baseball season with a 13-1 win over Southern Tuesday afternoon in the first midweek game of the year.
JUCO transfer Conner Ware made his LSU debut and the lefty threw three scoreless innings. Ware ended the day without allowing a hit, walked one, and struck out a pair of batters.
“We’re very excited to have Conner on our staff, he was important for us to get in recruiting,” Jay Johnson said. “We knew he would be a difference-maker, and we’re very thankful he decided that this is what he wanted to do in his career right now. You got a glimpse today of why we’ve been so excited about him for the last several months.”
Wofford transfer Zac Cowan also made his LSU debut on Tuesday and came on in relief of Ware. Cowan ate up three innings where he gave up an unearned run, a pair of hits, and struck out three. Kade Woods pitched the final inning of Tuesday’s game and struck out two of the three batters he faced.
Offensively the Tigers were paced by Ethan Frey, Derek Curiel, and Steven Milam. The Tiger bats combined for 14 hits and LSU drew seven walks.
Frey got the start at DH Tuesday going 3-4 at the plate and hit his first career homer in an eight-run fourth inning.
“I view Ethan as a starting player,” said LSU coach Jay Johnson. “We have some good competition in the outfield and at DH for at-bats and playing time. The story is how all of those guys are dealing with it in a mature manner, and you see that Ethan was ready to play today.”

Curiel continues to have a productive start to his collegiate career as he picked up three hits and three RBI. Through four games, Curiel leads LSU with seven hits, is tied for first in total bases (10), and is third on the team in RBI with six.
Daniel Dickinson is also impressing through four games, as the Utah Valley transfer had a two-run single and scored a pair of runs Tuesday. Steven Milam had a pair of hits, highlighted by an RBI triple in the fourth, while Chris Stanfield, once again batting leadoff, reached base three times.
Up next LSU will play away from Alex Box for the first time this season as the Tigers will head down to Thibodaux and take on Nicholls tomorrow night at 6:30.
