The Powerhouse is ready for a new era
LSU announced their 2025 baseball schedule Thursday. The regular season begins at home vs Purdue Fort Wayne on Valentine’s Day and ends at South Carolina Saturday, May 17. SEC play begins Friday, March 14, with a home series against Missouri. The 2025 season includes eight home weekend series including five in the conference. The newly revamped SEC Tournament returns to Hoover May 20-25 with a 16-team, single-elimination bracket. Regionals begin May 30, Super Regionals begin June 6 and the 2025 College World Series begins June 13. Information on tickets can be found at lsusports.net. The full schedule, which should be read top-to-bottom, left-to-right, is pictured below.
The non-conference slate
LSU’s non-conference slate has been lackluster in the first three years of the Jay Johnson era, and this year isn’t very different. The March 11 game against Xavier is the only non-Louisiana non-conference home game against a team who finished 2024 inside the top 50 of the RPI. None of the others crack the top 200. The stretch from February 26-March 1 sees LSU face four teams that finished in the top 100 and three that finished in the top 40. That’s going to be a week to watch, but the rest should be chances to gel.
The conference slate
The SEC added two new teams and removed divisions from the scheduling. Instead of that, it’s a pod system similar to what got implemented in football. Two teams are permanent, Mississippi State and Texas A&M, while the other eight will be part of a rotation. LSU-Texas is one of the marquee series on the SEC calendar, and LSU fans are counting the days until they can get another shot at Tony Vitello’s Vols. LSU vs Paul Mainieri closes out the regular season, a sentence that feels stranger as it becomes more real.
LSU is bringing in one of the most stacked recruiting classes in college baseball history, and the bad taste from the end of 2024 lingers with those returning. 2025 looks to be an exciting season.
