Jackson, Brown, and Butler are all in tow
Saturday was a fruitful day for the immediate future of the LSU football program as the Tigers added three players out of the transfer portal, two of whom are transferring in from SEC programs.
The newest three Tigers joining the program are former Florida corner Ja’Keem Jackson, Kentucky wide receiver Barion Brown, and Nebraska defensive end Jimari Butler.
Going in chronological order, Jackson was the first of the trio to commit to LSU. Jackson was recruited to Florida by Corey Raymond so him following Raymond to Baton Rouge makes perfect sense. Jackson was a top-50 recruit coming out of high school and On3 had him as the No. 3 corner in the 2023 cycle. The bulk of Jackson’s experience came in 2023 as a true freshman; he was limited to just two games this season with Florida due to what was called a “soft tissue injury in the lower body.” Jackson will have three years of eligibility remaining and figures to compete with Ashton Stamps and DJ Pickett for a starting position.
Brown committed second and is the most accomplished of the three players LSU added. In three years and 37 games with Kentucky, Brown has 1,528 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. He’s also arguably the greatest returner in SEC history as he holds a conference record with five kickoff returns for touchdowns in his career.
Butler committed Saturday evening and looks to be the replacement for Saivion Jones next season. The former Cornhusker is listed at 6’5”, 260 pounds. In three seasons with Nebraska, Butler has 65 career tackles with 7.5 sacks and forced a fumble. This season was Butler’s most productive season yet as the former three-star prospect had 22 tackles, 7 TFLs, and a pair of sacks.
