FS1 personality Joy Taylor tried to unleash a clever take about Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese this Tuesday on “Speak.” Let’s just say it backfired.
Taylor argued that Clark wasn’t being talked about prior to the national championship game in 2023. With that said, she suggested that Reese’s antics helped Clark become popular.
“We were not talking about Caitlin Clark before Angel Reese walked up to her, did this [waving her hand], and pointed to the ring,” Taylor said. “This is not my opinion. I lived it. I watched it. It was recorded, it was broadcasted live. We were not talking about Caitlin Clark before that moment, and that’s OK. You can be extremely talented and not interesting.”
Taylor isn’t the first person to unleash this ludicrous take, but she’s one of the first to do so on national television.
While there’s no doubt the LSU-Iowa game helped speed up the growth of women’s basketball game, we can’t dismiss that Clark dropped 41 points on South Carolina in that same Final Four. That performance alone had people buzzing about her.
With that said, Taylor is getting crushed on social media for her awful take.
“Sports analysts saying they didn’t know who CC was before the 23 chip is extremely damning on sports media,” one fan said. “This does not say what she thinks it does.”
“This is simply not true,” another fan replied. “If you weren’t paying attention to women’s college hoops say that instead.”
“We’re not blatantly lying. Caitlin was HER before the Natty Game and everyone knew about her before the Natty Game. Don’t do that,” a third fan wrote.
Celebrities like Kevin Durant, LeBron James and Travis Scott were hyping up Clark before the LSU-Iowa game. Heck, she even interviewed with Stephen A. Smith.
Next time Taylor has a take about Clark, she may want to consider doing some research.
