Tigers survive feisty Commodores to end losing streak
Sixth-year senior Josh Williams ran for 90 tough yards and two touchdowns to help the Tigers get a 24-17 win over a good Vanderbilt Commodores team.
Vandy stunned the Tiger Stadium crowd with a 63-yard touchdown pass on their first offensive snap, but didn’t reach the end zone again until their final snap. The LSU offense put together scoring drives of 90, 80, 77 and 74 yards before going 66 yards in 11 plays to ice the game.
Garrett Nussmeier had an excellent game, going 28/37 for 332 yards with 1 TD and 0 INTs. He had two more touchdown-worthy throws early in the fourth, but Kyren Lacy and Aaron Anderson couldn’t hang on.
After surrendering the early touchdown, the LSU defense forced four punts and a turnover on downs. The final TD drive looked like a 3-and-out until Vandy just barely converted a fake punt on 4th and 9.
While it wasn’t pretty at times, we aren’t in a position to be unhappy with a win after the past month. Both the offense and the defense played well overall without making massive mistakes. LSU will look to finish the regular season 8-4 against an Oklahoma team that looks a lot scarier after they throttled Alabama tonight.
Even though we won, we really don’t have to wear these jerseys again. Let’s retire them undefeated.
