Yeah, yeah I know
The college hoops season is now in full swing across the country, and since the LSU football team doesn’t appear to have any playoff aspirations, we might as well start shifting our eyes toward the hardwood. Here’s the most intriguing games for the week.
Men’s Basketball
Monday: McNeese vs. #2 Alabama, 6:00 P.M., SEC Network
Will Wade makes his return to Coleman Coliseum. Enough said.
Tuesday: Michigan State vs. #1 Kansas, 5:30 P.M., ESPN; #6 Duke vs. #19 Kentucky, 8:00 P.M., ESPN
The Champion’s Classic is always one of the first, big events of the college basketball season and this year is no exception with four of the biggest blue bloods in the sport squaring off in Atlanta. This is likely the country’s first look at the now Coach Cal-less Kentucky, and any Duke game is worth watching this year to get a glimpse at the likely No. 1 pick in this year’s draft, Cooper Flagg. It’d be a real shame if the Pelicans got him, I tell ya what.
Thursday: LSU vs. Kansas State, 8:00 P.M., ESPN+
While there won’t be any ranked teams playing Thursday night, LSU has a really intriguing game against Kansas State that could be a nice early season résumé booster. The Wildcats may not be the class of the Big 12, but this will be a good measuring stick game for LSU.
Friday: #20 Florida vs. Florida State, 5:00 P.M., ACC Network
#2 Alabama vs. #15 Purdue, 6:00 P.M., Peacock
#9 Arizona vs. Wisconsin, 8:00 P.M., Peacock
#21 Ohio State vs. #23 Texas A&M, 8:00 P.M., SEC Network
The meat and potatoes of Friday are the two ranked vs. ranked matchups with Bama traveling to West Lafayette to take on Purdue, and Ohio State meeting A&M in College Station.
Women’s Basketball
Thursday: Creighton vs. #10 Kansas State, 5:30 P.M., ESPN2
Creighton vs. K-State lost most of its luster after the Jays took it on the chin against South Dakota State, but they’re still a good program having made the last three NCAA tournaments. Kansas State, on the other hand, are trying to establish themselves as the class of the new-look Big 12.
Friday: #2 UConn, vs. #14 North Carolina, 5:00 P.M., ESPN2
Notre Dame might run things in the ACC, but North Carolina isn’t a pushover. How much of a fight can they give UConn though? Ehh…we’ll see.
