Haleigh Bryant earned the 2024 Honda Sport Award for gymnastics Friday. The award is given to “the best of the best in collegiate athletics” in each of 12 NCAA-sanctioned women’s sports and is open to all athletes. This contrasts with the AAI Award which is only open to seniors and beyond. By winning this award, she’s a finalist for the 2024 Honda Cup alongside the other 11 winners. The award ceremony airs live on CBS Sports Network Monday, June 24, at 6:00 p.m.
Haleigh won the award over Oklahoma’s Jordan Bowers, Oregon State’s Jade Carey and Florida’s Leanne Wong. She is the second LSU gymnast to ever win the Honda Award. The other was Susan Jackson in 2010. Haleigh is the first gymnast since Jackson to win both the AAI Award and Honda Award in the same season. She’s the first gymnast to win both awards and the NCAA all-around and team titles in the same season since Georgia’s Courtney Kupets did it in 2009. Georgia’s Kim Arnold completed the quadrafecta in 1998 and Utah’s Missy Marlowe did it in 1992. She’s the seventh LSU athlete to win a Honda Sports Award, joining track stars D’Andre Hill, Keisha Spencer and Kimberlyn Duncan, the aforementioned Jackson, golfer Marta Silva Zamora, and women’s basketball icon Seimone Augustus.
Haleigh has won basically everything a person could win as an LSU gymnast and she still decided four years wasn’t enough. The following is every award, record and milestone she’s won or achieved.
