Who else?
When you beat a top-10 opponent in an overtime thriller people tend to notice and three of LSU’s best players were recognized by the SEC for their efforts against Ole Miss.
Garrett Nussmeier was named the SEC’s Offensive Player of the week while Whit Weeks was named the Defensive Player of the Week; Bradyn Swinson, once again, was named the league’s Defensive Lineman of the Week.
Nussmeier’s more than deserving of the honor, raw boxscore numbers be damned. Yes he completed less than half of his passes—43 percent to be exact—and yes he threw two interceptions, but context matters and when the game mattered most, Nuss delivered. He engineered a game-tying drive late in the fourth quarter in which he converted two fourth downs and a 3rd and 10, and he threw the touchdown heard round the college football world in overtime to Kyren Lacy.

Weeks was the no-doubt choice for Defensive Player of the Week. Weeks had a career-high 18 tackles, two TFLs, a sack, and forced a fumble. If he keeps this up he’ll very likely be on the short list for the Butkus Award.
Swinson has been a complete force this year and it’s the third time his efforts have been honored by the SEC. This time around Swinson eight tackles, 2.5 TFLs, a pair of sacks and quarterback hits, and was credited with two pass breakups. He’s having the best LSU defensive end season since Arden Key’s 2016 and fittingly enough he’s on pace to break Keys’ single-season sack record of 12. Swinson has seven through six games and needs six more to break the record.
